So, which of the summer's big blockbusters do you think will probably fall farthest off the mark? Which cinematic Icarus will fly too close to the sun and burn up on re-entry?

Date: 2009-02-02 05:38 pm (UTC)Lets see, Sabretooth... a nearly 7ft 300lb blonde haired muscular killing machine.
Schreiber... 5ft some odd, 170lb dark haired guy that I am more muscular than... who is pretty much just the same size as Jackman.
As you can see... it doesn't quite add up.
They should have called him the "Badger" or something.
To me, Sabretooth is always going to look like wrestler Sid Vicious in a costume.
I always think of Sabretooth refering to Wolverine as "Runt" and just the sheer David VS Goliath aspect of their fights. It is kind of sad that that will definitly be missing from the movie.
Still, I do like that they are going more cerebral and emotional with the character... I just wish they would TRY to keep with the original character dynamic.

Date: 2009-02-02 06:22 pm (UTC)But still, Wolverine and Sabretooth being the same size bugs me (I already acknowledged that I liked HOW they were playing Sabretooth), I just wish that they would go for a bigger, primal, vicious looking Sabretooth (with blonde hair at least). You could even still use Leiv but just use camera tricks and other techniques to give the appearance of a larger Sabretooth.
You know all the techniques they use in the Tom Cruise movies to hide the fact that the man is a midget *lol*

Date: 2009-02-02 06:18 pm (UTC)Wolverine is going to break my heart into a thousand pieces; I pretty much don't care about Harry Potter at all any more, and the Transformers/GI Joe crap is going to be more CG drivel. I won't see Terminator, and I probably won't see Star Trek, but I'm sure they'll both suck.
After Iron Man, Speed Racer, and Hulk, I can't imagine Hollywood topping itself unless by accident, and I think they'll be trying 'way too hard on all of these movies.
I don't know if Shia LaBeouf is bringing his special brand of movie kryptonite to theatres this summer, but that kid can pretty much kill anything he touches. Any movie whose set he's walked through or near will be drained of all power to interest me.

Date: 2009-02-02 07:06 pm (UTC)There's a second Transformers movie? But ... the first was so frikkin' painful.
GI Joe. I have no idea what they were even thinking.
Wolverine. Like
Star Trek. I'm looking forward to this. Unlike many, I'm of the "fuck the canon, stick to the basic concepts" school when things are "re-imagined."
Watchmen. I'm looking forward to this, and largely my statement for Star Trek stands for this too. Movies aren't books, and by and large shouldn't be attempts to create them frame by frame (and this is where Sin City, which I enjoyed, fails as a movie).
Harry Potter. Stick to the rhythym, and they can't go too far wrong, if you can get past the cast that has aged a decade since the start fo the franchise.
Terminator. Like Alien, it is something that would have been done best with a single sequel.
Doug.

Date: 2009-02-02 07:17 pm (UTC)I don't have high expectations for Wolverine, so at best I will be pleasantly surprised. I'd be shocked if HP VI is any different in quality from the others (i.e. workmanlike). I'm not a big fan of Watchmen, Leslie's the Transformers fan in this house, and while I'm actually looking forward to Terminator I'm not enough of a fanboy for the franchise to care if they screw it up.

Date: 2009-02-02 08:40 pm (UTC)I guess I would have to go with Wolverine, though it may go to Star Trek if it disappoints. I don't care much about Harry Potter, or Terminator, and I expect Watchmen to be good, in all honesty.

Date: 2009-02-02 09:22 pm (UTC)The Watchmen trailer is beautiful, but the the Star Trek one fills me with deep dread. And Karl Urban's in it for pity's sake! How badly can you miscast the role of Bones? (We were hoping for Gary Sinise at least).
