Taco Tuesday: Note here, huge success
Dec. 17th, 2008 03:33 pmThe Thursday night group is on hiatus until the new year, so we decided to get together for dinner and interact in a human environment.
Choosing the venue was tricky, with two vetoed (including my favourite tex-mex joint in the world) and one prorogued, until finally we settled on El Trompo, a taco bar in Kensington market.
Then, we realized that the GM hadn't been invited to the festivities. So we sent him an invite. Hey, can I bring the wife? he asks. Sure! Anyone else want to bring the SO? A couple yeses came down the pipe, and so reservations were made.
Then, GM has to cancel, Cynra can't make it, and the vetoer of doom calls in sick, so the reservation ends up being cut in half.
In the end, though, nobody acted like a douchebag and we didn't eat at a chain resto, so that was a victory.
We met up at El Trompo, where we learned that they do, in fact, close at 8 pm, which would make our 7 pm dinner meeting a little abbreviated.
The tacos there were delicious, so that's good. They also had a bean n' bacon soup, which was tasty, if not on the same level as RR's chicken lime.
Of course, when we were done, we were still peckish, so we decided to head over to Sneaky Dee's for some nachos. A nice stroll through the neighbourhood got us there, but it was awash in hipster scum, so we eschewed sitting in the cold night air to wait for them to finish their dinner. In the end, we ended up going to Rancho Relaxo to grab nachos and beer, even though they were out of Mill Street Tankhouse.
We discussed a variety of things. I've still got Shadowrun's lifestyle rules in my head, and mentioned them during one lull in conversation. Paul asked "What keeps a power gamer from just having their character live on the street?" I swear, sometimes I want to shoot him in the face. We also discussed the lost knowledge of WW II battleship artisans.
The only downside to the night was having to drive home in the middle fo a truly rotten snowstorm. Boo, frozen precipitation!
