So, 2008 is a month old already. Who saw THAT coming, eh?
Ice O Hedron is a one day event being held next month (Feb 16). I'm going to be attending as a player.
Okay, Ad Astra is listed as having a gaming room this year. No details yet. Is anyone in the group involved with it this year? Steve?
Panda has not set a date yet for the con, but apparently it is an anniversary this year. Yay! I miss the old days of B5 tournaments there.
Ottawa is hosting CanGames May 16-18. Is the 24 weekend early this year?
It looks like Lion Rampant is skipping BayCon this year, as they're planning the 2009 edition now.
Toronto Trek has not had much organized gaming for the past few years, but I did see some guys playing a Fantasy Flight boardgame last year (Twilight Imperium?) and someone playing Dragonology the board game, so that was nice.
The Canadian National Gaming Expo will once again be part of FanExpo Canada on August 22-24. We've started organizing events for the summer event. If you or anyone you know would like to participate, please let them know they can contact me at JustinATHobbystarDOTcom.
Montreal will also be hosting a new Royalcon.
This is in addition to TABS regular CondoCons and the TRPA's monthly socials and game nights.
Anyone know of anything else going on this year?

I had never heard of this one and found it by accident.
I used to go to Panda back in the Ryerson days and had many good games.

Date: 2008-02-08 09:30 pm (UTC)Sad News: Forced Cancellation for Ice-O-Hedron
Dear Ice-O-Hedron Supporter
They finally assigned me a room and it is far too expensive for our purposes. I will simply have to cancel the event.
The TDSB will only let me rent the cafeteria for our meeting. This would cost $2000. I was worried that we would be squeezed down to one room instead of three. I never imagined I would be put in a huge cafeteria and charged an incredible amount.
I am also more than a little mad. It has been six weeks since my proposal was submitted and only NOW they make their decision? Perhaps if I had started this whole process sooner, I would have got the disappointment out of the way faster and could have found alternative arrangements. As it is, I have no choice but to cancel things.
The pre-paid attendees will be getting their fees refunded to them shortly.
Thanks to everyone for your support and encouragement. Hopefully, you will all find something to do this Family Day weekend.
Yours, with a heavy heart,
Erik Weissengruber. (A.K.A. Dr. Erock)
