Busy weekend, it was. Loads of yard work was completed, and the vegetagle garden was tilled and planted.

Only, however, with greenhouse bought seedlings. At this time my own seedlings are still sprouting in the back room (and the naming sticks are getting fuzzy, which is ick). When will I learn, six weeks before the last frost! It's not just a good idea! We also took some rocks, put them in our new wheelbarrow, and moved them from one side of the yard to the other.

Cynra & I did not go see Up! on the weekend, but may do so tonight. That would be fun.

Saturday night we welcomed [livejournal.com profile] mr_weasel and his wife over to Casa Bitter. We had some curry & naan for dinner (which turned out awesome) and played a couple games of Pandemic. I'd purchased Pandemic several weeks ago, but hadn't gotten to play it yet, so it was nice to put it through its paces. We won the first game thanks to a very lucky first draw that eliminated the blue disease, but lost the second game even though we'd gotten more of the game's play down. The dispatcher is still a bit of a challenge to play, though.

Sunday was more yard work, and then off to [livejournal.com profile] pyat and [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage's for fondue and more disesase fighting. You can see photos here. Unfortunately, we only got to play one game of Pandemic this time which, once again, led to the collapse of society as we known it.

I'm wondering how hard the game will be once we start trying it at the normal level, where you keep your cards hidden and there's another epidemic card scattered in the deck. The second game played, which was the second one lost, was lost after a massive series of outbreaks in Europe that sort of cascaded until we ran out of blue disesase blocks. Last night's game was very close, but we ended up losing after the player card deck ran out.

Since gas has snuck up to about a buck a litre again, Cynra & I are carpooling to work in Supercar, at least for the rest of the school year. Huzzah!

Enjoyable weekend. Cynra & I attended Seedy Saturday, which was... not remotely as fun as it's been previously.

While I have joked about it being wall to wall hippies before, this time it was literally true. The room was packed full. I don't know if it was a victim of success, an improperly used new venue, or poor planning, but it was way too full.

Cynra got some seeds and some seedlings and catnip. More on the catnip later. I managed to see [livejournal.com profile] anidada and her little one as well as Cats & [livejournal.com profile] sassy_fae for very brief stretches. I was pretty cranky by that point, as I was slowly braising in my coat.

Then, we headed downtown to pick up our tickets for The Wright Stuff, the showing of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz hosted by Edgar Wright. He took a picture of the crowd at the end. You can't see me too well, but I think I'm in there somewhere.

I love the guy in the front row who appears to be in Glabro form.

We grabbed dinner at the Pauper's Pub first. I headed out to get our spot in line while Cynra finished her dinner (and, yes, I am not thrilled by the fact I now go by the name "eight toes"). We were met by Ali & [livejournal.com profile] hazyone101 and we all headed in for the party.

It was a load of fun. He had some trailers in there too, including Robocop, a neat Lee Marvin film called Prime Cut, and Hard Target (was it as bad as I remember? Because I remember it making me think that this new Chinese guy wasn't all he was cracked up to be). He also showed the trailer for Don't, which remains great.

I kibbitzed with the guys from the Silver Snail during all that, which was a shock as they were friendly, which is not my general experience with that venue.

Wright also said he was proud of Mike Myers for taking a chance on The Love Guru. Isn't that nice.

It went late. The Q&A finished well after midnight, and Cynra & I got home later. I grabbed a slice of pizza at the Pizza Pizza at Queen & Bathurst, getting accosted by hawt drunk teenz. "You seem very serious, sir" are probably the most hurtful words ever said to me by a girl in a shimmery shirt.

This morning was breakfast with some friends, and then home for some laundry and relaxation.

I got Fight Club out of the library. She's watching it, oh yes. I also got a book called The Three Signs of a Miserable Job, which I will read at work. OH, NO REASON.

The Toronto Community Garden Network is holding its annual Seedy Saturday seed sale!

Seedy Saturday is Toronto's BEST Eco Fair,
With Seed exchange, Heirloom seeds for sale, gardening workshops, and kids activities.
The Theme this year is POTATOES, to read a bit more about heirloom potatoes please click here
Seedy Saturday is the day when the new gardening season begins in earnest. You can have an opportunity to learn more about gardening, hone and share your gardening skills, and buy or exchange vegetable and flower seeds.

We are seeking to ensure that there is an ample supply of heritage and organic seeds available. There will be organic gardening supplies, soil amendments, tools and resources. Environmental organizations and community groups will have information tables on topics of interest to gardeners.

And, as always, there will be food and beverage stands to enhance the overall experience and atmosphere.

There's oodles of vendors there and they have loads of seeds, growing accessories and the food is at the very least interesting.

I'm sure the raccoons in my back yard will be very excited to try potatos this year.

This year, they're holding it in the Artscape Wychwood Barns on Christie Street.

[livejournal.com profile] anidada, if you're there I think I owe you a bag of seeds or two.

Admittedly, none of my seeds worked last year, but I've got a good feeling about this year! I'm getting me some fractal broccoli this year.

So, today was a nice day. Cynra & I hit the garden like a shotgun (bang bang!) this morning. She took her car in for tire rotation and when she got back we got a rototiller from Stevenson's Rent All.

First, we stripped another 2.25 square meters of sod off, then tilled the native soil, black earth du sac, alfalfa pellets and municipal and personal compost into the entire garden to make one delightful growing region. The tiller was quite a nice tool.

The compost heap, which we've never actually openned before, smelled a little bit like poo. Or there may have been some wild animal poo next to it, which would suck.

We have some plants sprouting in the (God willing) nursery, and they should be ready to plant next weekend.

Actually, some of them are ready to plant now, but since there'll be a frost this week, we decided not to risk it.

However, that's one thing that did get on my nerves this week. I wanted to get some peat pots to plant them in so they could just get popped into the ground to grow.

So, I went to the Superstore's garden department. No. Canadian Tire? Nope. Home Hardware? Sorry! Loblaws? Uh uh. Rona? Not here!

Cynra tried a couple fo the hardcore garden stores, and they had naught, although one did give her a few plastic pots to grow things in.

Seriously, are they that small an item? Surely I'm not the only person who wants to put their plant in a pot made of peat for protection before preparing to plant them after the perilous period of poor planting has passed?

Ah, well.
