Went to Word on the Street w/ Cynra. She went library shopping using the proceeds from her Scholastic book sale this week. I, personally, suggested a couple Sumo chairs for the library, but no go.

I had to split early, leaving Cynra with [livejournal.com profile] redeem147. Sunny & I drove up to Pixelbarrel world HQ to help film an ELoE application video (mine, apparently).

Afterwards, I picked up Cynra, [livejournal.com profile] redeem147, and little brother Uday and we headed to Pizza Pide for some traditional Turkish pizza. Good stuff.

Oh, yeah: game got back into session this past Thursday. The group's meetings are a bit abbreviated for a standard D&D game. It tends to work better when we play something that doesn't have the standard expectation for two or three combats per session.

In addition, the roti this week was fucking SUBLIME. Holy cow. It was as close to perfection as Caribbean fast food gets.

A weekend

So, busy weekend. Saturday I got to chauffer Mater & Pater around Rexdale in preperation for their flight to Vienna, and then onto Istanbul. We did a little dropby at a shopping mall so they could get some stuff (Mater got a little stuffed moose for one of her grandnieces, and Pater needed a shaving brush) and while we were there I got a copy of Star Wars on Trial. I flipped through it, and found I was very disappointed to see someone out there is practicing one of the three "r"s in a literary sense.

Cynra's Euchere party got postponed, so we went off to see Shoot 'Em Up, which is awesome as long as you realize you're watching a live action, hyperviolent Bugs Bunny cartoon. I mean, seriously, Clive Owen's eating carrots all the way through the film.

Starring Paul Giamatti as Elmer Fudd. And Toronto as Generic American City, even though they show at least one scene with the CN Freakint Tower in it.

Sunday was hella busy. We drove to downtown TO so Cynra could go librarian crazy at Word on the Street and I could browse about. Bumped into a few folks here and there, but missed getting to hear Robert J. Sawyer do a reading. I picked up a couple Chuck Closterman books, as well as something by Umberto Eco and acouple issues of Broken Pencil. They did a games issue, but seem to have missed the Indie Games concept entirely, which is a shame as they would get along like a house afire. I also resubscribed to the Walrus, and ended up getting a spare copy of October's issue. Anyone want it?

Afterwards, we went up to the annual Smart meetup in Milton, where we ate sausages and got there just in time to participate in the drive. Our Smart rep, Justin, announced to the gathered Smarties that he was going to be leaving to work in graphic design. Good luck to him for that.

We did a short Smart Drive afterwards through the countryside. Lovely foliage this time of year. We were tired, so we ordered pizza and wings. From two different places, because Toppers does good pizza and Vito's does good wings. Nice.
